KAMASAMI KONG MEETS
THE WAITIKI 7

Saturday, June 6, 2026 • WAIKIKI

Halekulani is pleased to present the next performance in its Live at Lewers Concert Series, featuring a special one-night engagement on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with acclaimed exotica ensemble The WAITIKI 7, hosted by legendary radio icon Kamasami Kong.

For one evening at Lewers Lounge, The WAITIKI 7 returns with their signature “Exotica” sound – an evocative blend of easy listening instrumentation and faraway soundscapes that transport listeners to another time and place. Rooted in mid-century influences yet performed with contemporary precision, their music captures a sense of escapism, rhythm, and quiet sophistication.

Known for their captivating live performances, the ensemble brings richly layered arrangements and a distinct sense of atmosphere, creating an experience that feels both nostalgic and entirely of the moment.

Throughout the evening, Kamasami Kong lends his unmistakable voice as host, guiding the experience with his deep connection to music and Hawaiʻi, adding context and character to the performance.

Special Announcement

The WAITIKI 7 are honored to announce that Harold Chang, last living member of the original Martin Denny & Arthur Lyman groups, will be performing as W7’s percussionist at Lewers Lounge. Uncle Harold is stepping in for Lopaka Colon, who is leaving Honolulu after our Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra concert to join Jake Shimabukuro’s West Coast tour with Pure Heart and Henry Kapono.

Uncle Harold’s career highlights as a drummer, percussionist, record label founder, educator, and phenomenal human being cannot be overstated. From appearing on Martin Denny’s EXOTICA record that both launched—and named—the genre, to touring and/or performing with Arthur Lyman, Nelson Riddle, Don Ho, Andy Williams, Red Skelton, and more (much more), Harold has awarded the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017 and has since accomplished EVEN MORE. Now at a spritely 98, Harold is performing as great as ever, and with The WAITIKI 7, is a finalist in the 2026 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards for Jazz Album of the Year (Exotica Reborn) and Favorite Entertainer of the Year. Uncle Harold is also the subject of a documentary now in production by filmmaker Scott Schimmel of the University of Hawaii’s School for Cinematic Arts.
